Gut Soothing Collagen Sticks

Gut Soothing Collagen Sticks

Gut-Soothing Collagen Sticks for Dogs

We talk so much about probiotics when we talk about gut health.

But honestly, probiotics are only one part of the picture.

If the gut itself is irritated, digestion is weak, or the intestinal lining needs support, simply adding more bacteria may not be enough.

I made these gut-soothing collagen sticks as an easy recovery treat for days when the gut needs a little extra care; after medication, digestive upset, illness, deworming, or simply for dogs who tend to have a sensitive stomach.

They are made with collagen-rich chicken feet broth, moringa, amla, shiitake and our Good Mama Leaky Gut blend.

Simple. Functional. And very easy to make.

What you need

  • 250gm chicken feet

  • 2 small moringa/drumsticks

  • 1 fresh amla

  • 3-4 shiitake mushrooms

  • Enough water to cover

  • Good Mama Leaky Gut; as per your dog’s recommended serving

Do not add stock cubes.

How to make it

Wash the chicken feet well and remove the nails if needed.

Add chicken feet, moringa (drumsticks) , amla and shiitake along with 1tbsp apple cider vinegar to a pressure cooker / pot with enough water to cover everything.

Cook until the feet are very soft and the broth becomes rich and gelatinous. When simmering slowly, this takes about 3-4 hrs

Strain the broth really well and remove all bones.

Please do not feed cooked chicken bones.

If you want, you can separate the soft skin, cartilage and meat from the feet and blend only the boneless soft tissue into your dog’s meal.

Now let the broth cool completely or become just slightly warm.

Once cooled, add your dog’s recommended serving of Good Mama Leaky Gut and mix well.

Pour into silicone moulds and refrigerate or freeze.

That’s it.

Why these ingredients?

Chicken feet broth

Chicken feet are naturally rich in collagen and gelatin.

This makes the broth nourishing, soothing and a great base for dogs with sensitive digestion.

Colostrum

Present in our Leaky Gut blend, colostrum helps support the intestinal barrier and gut immune function.

Slippery elm

Rich in natural mucilage, which forms a gentle gel-like layer and helps soothe the digestive tract.

Marshmallow root

Another beautiful mucilage-rich herb used traditionally to calm and support irritated digestive tissue.

Chamomile

Helps support digestive comfort, especially in dogs who tend to have an unsettled or sensitive stomach.

Bromelain

A digestive enzyme that helps with protein digestion and also provides anti-inflammatory support.

Amla

Provides natural antioxidants and plant compounds that support overall recovery and gut health.

Moringa

A simple nutrient-dense addition with minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients.

Shiitake

Contains beta-glucans and other compounds that support immune and gut-immune function.

How much to feed

These are functional treats, not a complete meal. The easiest way to portion them is based on your dog’s Leaky Gut serving.

If your dog gets one serving of Leaky Gut daily, add 7 days’ worth to the cooled broth and divide the batch into 7 equal moulds.

One stick = one day.

For very sensitive dogs, start small. Around ¼ portion  and increase slowly over a few days.

When I like using these

I find these especially useful:

  • After antibiotics or strong medication

  • During recovery after illness

  • After deworming

  • For dogs with recurring digestive sensitivity

  • During periods of reduced appetite

  • As gut-supportive treat

If your dog is recovering from something serious like tick fever, please remember this is supportive nutrition, not a replacement for veterinary treatment.

Also, if your dog has very low platelets, a bleeding disorder, pancreatitis or is on multiple medications, speak to your vet before adding supplements.

Storage

Keep refrigerated for up to 2–3 days.

For longer storage, freeze them in individual portions.

Once frozen, transfer to an airtight container or freezer-safe pouch.

I usually prefer using frozen batches within 6–8 weeks.

Do not repeatedly thaw and refreeze.

And if Leaky Gut has already been mixed into the stick, avoid heating or boiling it again.

A few important tips

  • Skim excess fat if your dog has a sensitive stomach.

  • Do not use this recipe for dogs with a known chicken allergy.

  • Never feed the cooked bones.

  • Use only store-bought edible shiitake mushrooms.

  • Introduce slowly if any of the ingredients are new to your dog.

Gut health is not just probiotics.

A strong gut also needs good digestion, a healthy intestinal barrier, proper nutrition, controlled inflammation along with a diverse microbiome.

So sometimes, instead of asking:

Which probiotic should I give?

A better question is:

What does my dog’s gut need in order to become a healthier place?

That is exactly what this recipe is meant to support.

Calm the gut. Nourish it. Support the lining. Then build the microbiome.
